Evelyn One Year Old Korean Doljanchi Ceremony

In Korean culture, the first birthday in a child’s life is of utmost importance, and a celebratory experience! On their first birthday, Korean children wear a hanbok and are placed in front of a table of objects such as a pen, a ball, and a stethoscope. They are encouraged to choose one thing from the table. It is believed that the object they select will foretell the child’s future. I loved learning about this special Korean celebration from Chelsy, Evelyn’s mom.

I have photographed a Korean Tea Ceremony before, but this was the first Doljanchi ceremony that I have witnessed! What a fun and unique tradition!! I loved being able to capture Evelyn in her celebratory hanbok.

Cultural celebrations are some of my favorite things to photograph. Coming from a Japanese background, honoring heritage and tradition are of utmost importance to me! If you have a celebration coming up, I would love to document it for you. Inquire here if you are interested in having me photograph your special traditions.
