Behind the Lens

I am Kiana. I’m so glad you are here!

I’ve spent 6 years fostering my photography skills through formal education and professional experience to help my clients feel and look elevated beyond belief.

My Japanese heritage has greatly influenced who I am and how I view the world. I’ve seen firsthand the power of photography in understanding my own personal identity and family history. Because of this, I have specialized in photographing familial bonds and cultural traditions. All customs and celebrations should be honored and respected, and I will memorialize your life, from the unforgettable festivities to the smallest moments and everything in-between, in an elevated and breathtaking way.

You and your life are worth documenting. And I aim to help you see how extraordinary your life is, no matter the stage.

As a fine art photographer, it is my passion to craft timeless, heirloom photographs that you and your family will cherish for years to come.

About Kiana

I love any excuse to gather. Whether it’s for a pasta-making night, a Bible study session, to celebrate a birthday, or a holiday party, I love getting people I love together. My life is rich because of the people that are in it.

I live for sunshine, a good tan, and great company. I love spending time outside throwing a football around, biking, playing pickleball, hiking, swimming, and picnic-ing.

I have a passion for photography in all forms. When I’m not photographing weddings, I’m teaching photography at BYU. I love studying new bodies of work, visiting museums, connecting with other photographers, and sharing concepts and ideas with my students. Cultivating relationships with my students and seeing them progress not only photographically, but also in their personal lives, lights me up.

There is no one I would trust more with capturing important moments in my life

“I have had the pleasure of working with Kiana on multiple occasions and there is no one I would trust more with capturing important moments in my life. Kiana has always been the most professional, prepared, creative, and personable photographer. She captures the most light filled, natural, stunning editorial-like images. I cannot say enough good things about Kiana!!! I promise you will only ever regret not working with her sooner!”

Recent Personal Work

My work is inspired and influenced by the experiences I have with the world around me. I love exploring ideas, meeting new people, and expressing concepts outside of my commissioned work. These personal projects are my way of nurturing my inner artist, and allow me to try new mediums, go outside my comfort zone, and produce work without bounds—ultimately making me a stronger artist and more confident photographer in all aspects of my work.

The Taguchi Legacy

Wet-Plate Collodion or Tintype photographs exploring and honoring my Japanese Heritage. Tintype photography captures the essence of a person that we are unable to see with the naked eye. Unlike digital photography that can be easily corrupted and deleted, these photos will last for centuries. Generations to come will have a record of the heritage that my Baachan passed on to my mother, who subsequently passed it on to me, and which I am eager to pass on to my future children.

Long Live the Cowboy

An ongoing, fine-art photographic endeavor documenting cowboys of the great American West. Ranging from the older generation of ‘retired’ cowboys, to current ranchers and professional competitors, and everything in-between. Taken with film, digital, and tintype processes.

Cooking with Baachan

In the wake of the Covid pandemic, I moved from my college apartment to my parents house, where my grandma, Baachan, was also living. In the first few months of the pandemic we cooked many Japanese dishes together. The more we cooked together, the more I wanted a record of Baachan’s recipes for myself to use with my future family. And, as I shared more of our cooking adventures on my social media, I found that others wanted her recipes as well. And so, Cooking with Baachan was born.
